About the founder

Ever since she was a kid, Toby (LinkSides founder) has been naturally curious. She recalls “…spending hours outside looking at nature and mucking about”. Her fascination with the world led her to pursue a career in science. 

The years spent leading and managing biology projects honed her ability to collect data, lead inquiries and discover new ideas and perspectives. Her focus shifted over time to leading a portfolio of projects in a large corporation.  She again found herself drawn to exploring more engaging ways to work together, aligning people and teams to achieve results. 

Following her passion,
Toby found her purpose.

“I didn’t realize that my passion to connect with people and help clear a path forward was facilitating” says Toby. Years ago, while in the first hour of a leadership development workshop, she noted it wasn’t like any other session she had attended. Rather than just reading out of the workbook and listening to a speaker, it was instead an engaging space where people were opening up and sharing ideas. Turns out, it was a master class in facilitation. The experience put Toby on the path to fully embrace the work she’d always been drawn to, linking people and ideas. 

By embracing humanity in how we connect and learn, we can build open and collaborative relationships that incorporate diverse perspectives to achieve outstanding results.

    My identity, my family, and the idea of our future generations are all central to what I do. I am proud of the legacy of my ancestors, which include Chinese immigrants who paid the Head Tax in the 1920s, and Red River Métis who took scrip in the late 1800’s.

    I'm a historian by training, and have spent most of my academic career researching the relationship between Indigenous feminism and sovereignty.

    I care deeply about our shared understanding of the past, and believe that the way we understand its relationship to the present is crucial if we are hoping to create change: if we don't understand how we've gotten to where we are (or even where we are), it's incredibly difficult to figure out where we want to go.

  • M.J. D’Elia

    MJ creates and facilitates learning adventures, workshops and custom courses related to leadership development, strategic thinking, and high-performance teams. After 20 years in academia, MJ launched Thirdway Think with a simple mission to instill creative confidence in emerging leaders and their teams. He uses a variety of tools including Everything DiSC, The 5 Behaviors, and Lego Serious Play – yes, that’s a real thing. In his spare time, MJ doodles, reads far too many leadership books, and follows the Toronto Blue Jays.
